World of Slime Villages, NPCs, and the Errands That Open the World

People hid in towns after mutant slimes arrived. Your capture gift is how you help — and how the map grows.

Quests and NPCs — Villages, Favours, World Secrets

Steam’s about-this-game block is a quest design document wearing marketing clothes. People gathered in villages to stay safe from wild slimes. You have a special power to capture those slimes. You solve problems for slimes and for various NPCs. As you help, the secrets of the world come into focus. This guide is how to treat that loop in the August 2026 Windows demo without inventing a five-chapter novel TEAM42 has not published.

Why villages exist

The pitch is not a lonely ranger fantasy. After mutant slimes appeared, civilians clustered. A village is a rest point, a trade rumour mill, and a quest board that does not look like a quest board. Talk to everyone on the first visit. Official copy says many problems are solved by capturing, riding, or bonding — not by a separate “hero class.” If an NPC points at a river, the answer is probably a slime you can swim on, not a better sword.

Rest and heal belong here too. Partners that faint on a hunt come back at village rest points. That is why errands and combat share a hub: you are never supposed to be more than one town away from trying again.

Favours for people, favours for slimes

TEAM42 repeats two clients. Humans want safety, food, and a blocked path cleared. Slimes want… to be understood. Steam says studying slimes is as important as levelling them. Knowledge from extra captures and bonds unlocks skills that make travel easier and hidden functions inside the partner. An NPC who asks you to “look after” a local slime is teaching the knowledge system, not padding playtime.

Do not skip slime-side errands because they look cute. They are how the Slimepedia grows footnotes (weather, clock, biome) that later boss hunts depend on. A graveyard request at night is a spawn lesson wearing a story hat.

How errands open the map

The official site’s biomes — peaceful forest, rugged mountain, graveyard that does not stay dead — are gated by traversal as much as by plot. A vine wall, a dark cave, a snow slope: those are bond abilities and sled timing. NPCs are the voice that tells you which tool you still lack. If a villager mentions an island, check whether you have a swimming partner before you mark the quest “bugged.”

Co-op helps when a hunt is large. It is not required for every village chore. TEAM42 has not listed a demo region that demands a full raid group. Bring friends because sharing spawn notes is faster, not because the door is locked.

What we will not invent

This wiki will not publish a fake five-act campaign, named chapter bosses, or a “true ending” checklist. Those numbers appeared in older hub copy as placeholders; they are not Steam text. What is Steam text: help NPCs, hunt or befriend powerful slimes deep in the world, record everything in the Slimepedia, and let secrets reveal slowly. When the December 2026 client ships a real chapter list, this page will grow names. Until then, play the errands in front of you.

Demo progress, including quest flags, does not carry over. Use the preview to learn the grammar of favours: capture, ride, bond, report back. Rebuild the novel in December. Claim a nickname so the villagers you help in the full game can still find you in Discord.

Practical first-session NPC route

  1. Exhaust dialogue in the starting town before you sprint to the meadow.
  2. Accept anything that sounds like a blocked path; it is a traversal tutorial.
  3. Log every species the NPC mentions in the Slimepedia, even if you have not caught it yet.
  4. Return after rain or night if the text mentioned weather or the clock.
  5. Only then start synthesis experiments — some favours want a species you cannot find wild.

The secret of the world is not a cutscene you can skip to. It is the pile of solved problems on the village board. Treat NPCs as the other half of the capture loop, and the map will keep unfolding without a spoiler wiki.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about the game.

Is there a main story chapter list in the demo?

TEAM42 has not published a numbered campaign for the August 2026 demo. Follow village errands and official Steam copy: help people, study slimes, uncover secrets slowly.

Do I have to play co-op to finish NPC quests?

No. Large hunts are easier with friends. Village chores and traversal gates are built around your slime partner.

Will demo quests carry into December?

No. Demo progress wipes. The habits — talk to everyone, log spawn conditions — are what you keep.

Are slime requests real quests or flavour?

They are the knowledge loop. Steam says studying slimes unlocks travel skills and hidden functions. Treat them as progression, not flavour text.
