World of Slime Bonds, Slime Knowledge, and Hidden Functions

Studying a slime is as important as levelling it — that is TEAM42's own rule.

Slime Bond and Knowledge — Hidden Functions

Official World of Slime copy repeats a line most creature games never dare to print: studying slimes is as important as levelling them up. Capture fills the Slimepedia. Bond and knowledge unlock the functions that let a slime move as you wish, clear obstacles, and grow the skills on your own character. This guide is the wiki’s home for that loop.

Bond Versus Collection

A Slimepedia entry means you have met the species. A bond means you have travelled with a specific partner. TEAM42 describes special slimes that, once the bond deepens, can be directed or used to clear obstacles. The exploration guide covers riding, swimming, and sleds. Bond is the permission layer underneath those tricks. Basic riding is available early. Path-clearing — cutting vines, breaking ice, lighting a cave — waits on a stronger relationship with that slime.

That design kills the “swap to whatever has the best number” habit. A rare slime with no bond is a trophy. A common slime you have actually lived with may be the only one that opens the next ridge. If you are stuck on a map, the answer is often not a tier list upgrade. It is more time with the partner already in your party.

Slime Knowledge and Your Character

As you capture more species or strengthen bonds, you build knowledge. Official text says that knowledge teaches skills that make the adventure easier and can unlock stronger hidden functions inside the slimes themselves. The Slimepedia is therefore not a sticker book. It is a skill tree disguised as an encyclopedia. Players who rush combat levels and ignore entries will hit a wall that looks like “the game is too casual to have depth” when the depth was in the notes they skipped.

After each new capture, open the entry. Record habitat, weather, time of day, and any Cube grade that worked. Those notes feed the next hunt and the next synthesis experiment. TEAM42’s first Dev. Note started with taming and synthesis precisely because those two actions are the daily loop; knowledge is what makes the loop smarter instead of longer.

Hidden Functions

Hidden functions are not shown in full until you reach the bond threshold. A slime that looks like a simple brawler can later reveal a traversal or puzzle tool. Do not release a partner because the first hour felt one-dimensional. Take it through a forest, a river, and a night spawn. If a function still does not appear, check whether the Slimepedia lists a knowledge gate you have not filled.

Hidden functions also matter in PvP. A 3v3 round can turn on a slime that suddenly sheds light, pins, or crosses water the other team treated as a wall. Bond is a PvP stat even when it does not say “attack power” on the sheet.

How to Raise Bond Efficiently

Travel with one designated partner instead of rotating six slimes every screen. Complete village NPC requests that mention that species. Use the partner to clear the exact obstacle type it is rumoured to handle — even failed attempts teach the control scheme. Capture cousins of the same family so the Slimepedia knowledge for the line increases. Fish if the partner is aquatic; the fishing loop is a bond activity, not a minigame ghetto.

Rest at villages when the partner faints. Official exploration notes say slimes can be recalled and healed; they do not vanish. Panic-replacing a bonded slime with a freshly Cubed rare is how people reset their own progress.

Knowledge, Cubes, and the Full Launch

Better knowledge makes Cubes cheaper because you stop throwing on the wrong weather. It also feeds December 2026 content: more biomes means more functions behind more bonds. The Steam demo (Windows, 26 August 2026) is short on total species but complete enough to practise the habit. Keep a personal list of which partners opened which doors. That list will be worth more on launch day than a screenshot of a lucky colour.

For the story frame — mutant slimes, villages gathering for safety, players with the power to capture — bond is how the world lets you help NPCs. You are not only filling a dex. You are becoming the person those villages asked for.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about the game.

Do I need a high bond to ride a slime?

Basic riding, swimming, and sled pulling are available without a deep bond. Obstacle-clearing functions are the ones that wait on higher bond and knowledge.

Is slime knowledge separate from character level?

Official copy treats knowledge from captures and bonds as a source of player skills and hidden slime functions. It is not just another XP bar on the partner.

Can I max bond in the demo?

You can raise bonds with the demo roster. Full-game species and later hidden functions arrive with the December 2026 launch.

Does synthesis reset bond?

Treat a synthesised child as a new partner. Log it in the Slimepedia and start the bond loop again; do not assume the parents' hidden functions copy over until TEAM42 publishes a formula.
