World of Slime Cubes: How You Actually Tame Slimes

Grades, timing, and why Cubes replace gacha as the only capture tool that matters.

Cubes — Capture Tools and Grades

Cubes are the capture tools of World of Slime. TEAM42’s developer notes are blunt: some slimes sit in a biome all day, others appear by time or situation, and you either walk past them, fight them, or throw a Cube and try to make them a partner. This page is the wiki’s reference for that throw — how grades work, when to spend a rare Cube, and how Cubes fit the game’s no-gacha promise.

What a Cube Does

A Cube is not a loot box. You already see the slime in the world. The Cube is a taming attempt with a success chance that rises with Cube grade and with the slime’s current state. Official coverage repeats the same rule: higher-quality Cubes improve the odds of recruiting rarer varieties. That is the entire paid-power question answered in one sentence. You are not rolling a banner for a random five-star. You are choosing a target you found while exploring, fishing, or synthesising, then spending a tool you earned in play.

Read this together with the field capture guide. Capture explains approach, stun windows, and spawn rules. Cubes explain the item you throw. If a page on this wiki still says “orb,” treat that as an old nickname — Cube is the term TEAM42 uses in Dev. Notes and press.

Grades and When to Spend Them

Cubes come in multiple tiers. Low-grade Cubes are for common meadow and forest species you need to fill early Slimepedia entries. Mid-grade Cubes belong on uncommon biome specialists — river slimes, night spawners, weather-gated species. High-grade Cubes are for the slime you have chased across a mountain or graveyard and may not see again this session. Wasting a top Cube on a common starter-area slime is the most expensive habit new players pick up.

Because the game sells cosmetics and convenience rather than power, Cube income is a play-skill problem, not a wallet problem. Village workbenches, quests, fishing, and exploration loops are how you restock. If a future patch adds a convenience pack that grants extra Cubes, it still will not spawn a legendary slime in your inventory. You still have to find the body in the world.

Timing Beats Grade

A high-grade Cube thrown at an attacking slime is a donation to the void. The capture window is after the attack animation, when the target is stunned. Sleeping slimes, where they exist in rest pockets, are even kinder. Alert slimes that have seen you but not yet committed an attack sit in the middle: possible, but greedy. Learn the animation, then spend the Cube. Grade multiplies a good throw; it does not rescue a bad one.

Weather and time of day change which species are even present. A perfect Cube cannot capture a slime that is not on the field. Check the Slimepedia notes after each new encounter. Location, weather, and clock are part of the Cube plan, not flavour text.

Cubes, Synthesis, and Fishing

Field Cubes are one of three official recruit paths. Synthesis combines two partners into a new species — no Cube required for the child, though you still captured the parents. Fishing pulls aquatic or bait-gated creatures that may never stand in a meadow. Build a Cube budget that leaves room for those loops. Players who only throw Cubes and never synthesise will miss the species TEAM42 designed as combination secrets.

Bonded slimes with hidden functions can also change a capture. A partner that pins, slows, or lights a cave can create the stun window a Cube needs. Raising slime knowledge is therefore Cube efficiency, not a separate hobby.

Cubes and the No-Gacha Rule

TEAM42’s public stance is that randomised gacha is gone. You obtain slimes by meeting them, fishing them, or mixing them. Cubes are the meeting tool. That is why this wiki treats Cubes as a skill item. For the shop itself, see monetisation. For the calendar that tells you when mobile players join the same capture loop, see the roadmap.

In the Windows-only Steam demo (26 August 2026), practise Cube discipline now. The December 2026 PC and mobile launch will add more species and more biomes. The throw will still be a Cube. The player who already knows when not to throw will fill the Slimepedia faster than the player who treats every slime like a banner roll.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about the game.

Are Cubes the same as Poké Balls or gacha tickets?

They are closer to a visible taming tool. You choose a slime that is already in the world. Higher grades help; they do not roll a random roster from a paid banner.

Do I need real money to get high-grade Cubes?

TEAM42 says gameplay content is free and that paid items are cosmetics plus selected convenience. Cubes are a play resource. Do not assume a paywall around grades unless an official shop listing says so after launch.

Can I capture without a Cube?

Field taming uses Cubes. New species also come from synthesis and fishing, which do not use a Cube on the resulting slime.

Should I save Cubes for the full December 2026 game?

Demo progress does not carry over. Spend Cubes in the demo to learn timing. Restock from scratch at launch.
